Now aged 39, Ronaldo is approaching the end of his career and although he is not sure when he will retire, it seems likely that the decision, which will break the hearts of many football fans, will be taken while representing his current Saudi employers.
Breaking the world transfer record for the Spanish giants when he left Manchester United in 2009, Los Blancos’ all-time top scorer left the Bernabeu in 2018 as a five-time winner of both the Ballon d’Or and the Champions League.
However, he could not create such success in a subsequent stint at Juventus and a second stint at United and is now plying his trade with Al-Nassr.
Real Madrid legend Cristiano Ronaldo made a number of statements to Portuguese outlet NOW relating to retirement and his post-playing plans.
“I don’t know if I’ll be able to finish playing soon or in two or three years. But, most likely, it will be at Al Nassr. This is the team where I’m happy, good, and feel good both in the country and in the league.
“So, most likely I’ll be able to finish my career at Al Nassr. I’m very happy playing in the Arab League and I want to continue doing that,” Ronaldo told Now.
After failing to make much of an impact in the most recent Euros won by Spain, when his country lost to France in the quarter-finals, Ronaldo insisted that he would not tell people in his circle about his plans to retire from international football and therefore join Portugal before making the announcement.
Another interesting part of Ronaldo’s comments was that he confirmed that he doesn’t see himself in the dugout one day after hanging up his boots.
“At the moment, I’m not thinking about becoming a coach of the first team or any team. This doesn’t even come to my mind, I have never thought about it.
